Have Questions?

Quick Answers

Are crabs and crayfish safe with shrimp?
Not reliably. Shrimplets and molting shrimp are at real risk, and adult shrimp may also be pinched or eaten. We do not recommend adding crabs or crayfish to a shrimp colony you care about.
Do crabs and crayfish need a secure lid?
Yes, especially crabs. Many freshwater crabs are skilled climbers and can escape through surprisingly small gaps. A secure lid is strongly recommended.
Can I keep them in a community tank?
Use caution. These animals are opportunistic and may pinch or eat small, slow, or vulnerable tankmates. Species-only or carefully planned setups are safest.
What type of aquarium is best?
A mature, stable aquarium with caves, rockwork, driftwood, moss, and broken sightlines works best. Provide plenty of hiding places, especially during molts.
Are crabs and crayfish covered by the Live Arrival Guarantee?
Yes. Photograph any loss in the original sealed bag on the day of delivery and submit a claim through the Start a Claim page. Approved claims are resolved according to the Live Arrival Guarantee policy.

About This Collection

Crabs & Crayfish

Freshwater crabs and crayfish are specialty invertebrates with big personality and unique behavior. These animals are very different from shrimp and snails, so they should be chosen with care and housed in a setup that matches their temperament. Dwarf crayfish and freshwater crabs can be fascinating display animals, but they are opportunistic. Shrimplets, molting shrimp, tiny fry, and slow tankmates may be at risk. Secure lids, stable water, and plenty of cover are important for long-term success. All crabs and crayfish are live animals and are covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee. Orders ship Monday through Thursday with livestock-safe packing. Check each product page carefully before adding them to a community aquarium.
