Have Questions?

Quick Answers

Are dwarf crayfish safe with shrimp?
Not reliably. Adult shrimp may survive in a heavily planted tank with a well-fed dwarf crayfish, but shrimplets and molting shrimp are at real risk.
What tank size do dwarf crayfish need?
A 10-gallon aquarium is a good minimum for a single Dwarf Orange Mexican Crayfish. More space and more hiding spots are better if you plan to keep more than one.
Do crayfish need hiding places?
Yes. Caves, rockwork, cholla wood, moss, and dense cover are important. Crayfish are especially vulnerable after molting and need places to hide.
Will crayfish eat plants?
They may damage or uproot delicate plants. Tough plants attached to hardscape, such as Anubias and Java Fern, are safer choices than soft carpeting plants.
Are crayfish covered by the Live Arrival Guarantee?
Yes. Photograph any loss in the original sealed bag on the day of delivery and submit a claim through the Start a Claim page. Approved claims are resolved according to the Live Arrival Guarantee policy.

About This Collection

Freshwater Crayfish

Freshwater crayfish are bold, active invertebrates with more personality than almost anything else in a freshwater aquarium. Dwarf Orange Mexican Crayfish are popular because they stay smaller than standard crayfish while still showing the classic exploring, climbing, and foraging behavior hobbyists love. Even dwarf crayfish are opportunistic. Shrimplets, molting shrimp, small snails, slow fish, and delicate tankmates may be at risk. They do best in mature aquariums with stable water, caves, cholla wood, rockwork, and plenty of hiding places. Freshwater crayfish are live animals and are covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee. Orders ship Monday through Thursday with livestock-safe packing.
