Have Questions?

Quick Answers

Are Pom Pom Crabs fully aquatic?
Yes. Pom Pom Crabs are one of the few freshwater crabs that can thrive fully submerged in a planted aquarium when kept in stable water.
Are freshwater crabs safe with shrimp?
No. Shrimplets and molting shrimp are at risk, and adult shrimp may also be pinched or eaten. We do not recommend Pom Pom Crabs with a shrimp colony you care about.
Do freshwater crabs need a lid?
Yes. A secure lid is essential because crabs are skilled climbers and may escape through small openings.
Can I keep multiple Pom Pom Crabs together?
In larger planted tanks, sometimes. Provide plenty of hiding spots, broken sightlines, and stable water. For small tanks, one Pom Pom Crab is the safer choice.
Are freshwater crabs covered by the Live Arrival Guarantee?
Yes. Photograph any loss in the original sealed bag on the day of delivery and submit a claim through the Start a Claim page. Approved claims are resolved according to the Live Arrival Guarantee policy.

About This Collection

Freshwater Crabs

Freshwater crabs are unique aquarium invertebrates that bring unusual behavior and character to a planted tank. Pom Pom Crabs are especially interesting because they stay small, spend most of their time fully submerged, and use their fuzzy claws to forage through the aquarium. Freshwater crabs should still be kept with care. They can be shy at first, are often more active during low-light periods, and should not be treated as guaranteed community-safe animals. Shrimplets, molting shrimp, and tiny fry may be at risk. A mature planted aquarium with stable water, tall hardscape, driftwood, plant cover, and a secure lid is the best starting point. Freshwater crabs ship Monday through Thursday and are covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee.
