Anubias Congensis Potted

Anubias congensis

Why We Love This Plant

  • Selected for shrimp tanks
  • Improves water quality
  • No CO₂ required
  • Beginner-friendly

Anubias Congensis is a hardy, slow-growing rhizome plant with elongated green leaves and a graceful upright form. It ships potted in a small mesh basket with rock wool, but its long-term home should be attached to hardscape rather than buried in substrate.

Use it in the midground or background of low-tech planted tanks. It tolerates low light, does not require injected CO2, and develops durable leaves that add structure without frequent trimming.

Care Notes

Remove the plant from the pot and gently rinse most of the rock wool from the roots. Attach the rhizome to driftwood or stone with super glue gel or thread, keeping the thick horizontal rhizome above the substrate.

Low light is sufficient. Excessive light can encourage algae on the slow-growing leaves. Trim damaged leaves close to the rhizome with clean, sharp scissors.

Expert Advice
Razz Aquatics Recommendation

Place Anubias Congensis in the midground or background, attached to a piece of hardscape where its elongated green leaves and a graceful upright form can be seen. Keep the rhizome exposed and allow room for its slow, steady growth.

Common Questions

Anubias Congensis Potted FAQ

Is Anubias Congensis safe for shrimp?+
Yes. Anubias Congensis is commonly kept in shrimp aquariums, and its firm leaves provide useful surfaces for biofilm grazing.
How do I attach it?+
Remove the plant from the pot, rinse most of the rock wool from the roots, and attach the rhizome to driftwood or stone with super glue gel or thin thread. Keep the rhizome above the substrate.
Why is my Anubias growing slowly?+
Slow growth is normal for Anubias. Avoid excessive lighting, which can encourage algae on the leaves without meaningfully improving growth.
What is the free shipping threshold?+
Plants and dry goods ship free at $75+. Adding livestock to an order may change the applicable shipping service and threshold.
Do I need CO2 or fertilizer?+
No. Anubias Congensis can grow under low light without injected CO2. Consistent care may improve growth, but it is well suited to low-tech aquariums.
Why can't I bury the rhizome?+
Anubias grows from a thick horizontal rhizome that can rot when buried. The roots may enter the substrate, but the rhizome must remain exposed.
How is it shipped?+
Plants are packed with damp protective material to help protect them in transit. Weather protection may be used when conditions require it.
Is there a live arrival guarantee?+
Yes. Photograph the plant in its original packaging on the day of delivery, before trimming or replanting, and submit any claim through the Start a Claim page.
