Corkscrew Vallisneria is a Vallisneria asiatica cultivar with naturally spiraling, twisted leaves that grow from a central crown — the same easy-care ribbon plant as standard Vallisneria, but with a more visually interesting structure. It ships potted in a small mesh basket with rock wool but should be planted directly in substrate for long-term growth.
Corkscrew Val typically stays shorter than spiralis, which makes it useful as a midground or background plant in mid-sized tanks where standard Vallisneria would dominate. Spreads by runners and tolerates a wide range of water parameters.
Care Notes
Corkscrew Vallisneria roots in substrate. After removing from the pot and rinsing most of the rock wool off the roots, plant with the crown (where the leaves meet the roots) ABOVE the substrate. Burying the crown causes rot.
Medium light is ideal. CO2 is not required; this plant spreads aggressively in low-tech tanks once established. Root tabs help in inert substrates. Propagates by runners with new plantlets attached.
