Beginner-friendly
Cryptocoryne parva is the smallest of the commonly available Cryptocoryne species — a compact rosette plant with narrow, upright green leaves that stay small enough to use as a foreground in mid-sized tanks. It ships potted in a small mesh basket with rock wool but should be planted directly in substrate for long-term growth.
Like all Crypts, parva is slow-growing and benefits from being left undisturbed once established. It tolerates a wide range of water parameters and grows under low to medium light without CO2 — a reliable foreground option for low-tech tanks and shrimp setups.
Care Notes
Cryptocoryne parva roots in substrate. After removing from the pot and rinsing most of the rock wool off the roots, plant with the crown (where the leaves meet the roots) ABOVE the substrate. Burying the crown causes rot. Root tabs help significantly with Crypts — they are heavy root feeders.
Crypts can melt after a parameter change or transplant — leaves yellow and dissolve, but the roots stay alive. Leave the plant in place and it usually regrows from the rhizome over a few weeks. Avoid moving Crypts once they are settled.

Why We Love This Plant
01
The Smallest Crypt
Cryptocoryne parva is the smallest commonly available Crypt. Compact enough to work as a foreground plant in mid-sized tanks.
02
Low-Tech Foreground Option
Grows under low to medium light without CO2. A useful foreground choice for low-tech tanks that don't want to commit to carpeting plants like Dwarf Baby Tears.
03
Selected for Shrimp Tanks
Selected for shrimp tanks and handled with invertebrate safety in mind. The narrow upright leaves give shrimp natural cover.
Expert Advice
Razz Aquatics Recommendation
Parva is one of the few true foreground Crypts. Plant small clumps spaced an inch apart along the front of the tank and resist the urge to move it. Crypts reward patience — once established, parva forms a low, slowly spreading carpet of narrow green blades. Root tabs are highly recommended.

Common Questions
Cryptocoryne Parva FAQ
Is Cryptocoryne parva safe for shrimp?+
Yes — Crypt parva is great for shrimp tanks. We select plants for shrimp tanks and handle them with invertebrate safety in mind.
How do I plant it?+
Remove from the pot, rinse most of the rock wool off the roots, and plant in substrate with the crown ABOVE the substrate. Burying the crown causes rot. Space small clumps an inch apart.
How fast does it grow?+
Slowly. Crypts are not fast growers, and parva is among the slowest. Expect it to take months to fill in fully.
What is the free shipping threshold?+
Plants and dry goods ship free at $75+. Adding livestock to your order unlocks free 2-Day Shipping at $120+ or free Overnight at $200+.
Do I need CO2 or fertilizer?+
No. Crypt parva grows under low to medium light without CO2. Root tabs help significantly because Crypts are heavy root feeders.
My Crypt is melting — is it dead?+
Probably not. Crypt melt is a common response to parameter changes or transplants. The leaves yellow and dissolve but the roots stay alive. Leave the plant in place and it usually regrows from the rhizome over a few weeks.
How is it shipped?+
Plants are packed with damp protective material to help protect them in transit. Weather protection may be used when conditions require it. Plants typically ship Monday through Thursday so they avoid sitting over the weekend.
Is there a live arrival guarantee?+
Yes — Live Plant Arrival Guarantee on every order. Photograph the plant in its original packaging on the day of delivery, before trimming or replanting, and submit a claim through the Start a Claim page. Approved claims are resolved with store credit, refund, or replacement at Razz Aquatics' discretion.
