Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Red' is a mid-sized rosette Crypt with broad, slightly undulating leaves in warm reddish-brown to olive tones. The red cultivar develops stronger color under good lighting, though it remains one of the more forgiving Crypts when conditions are less than ideal. It grows under low to medium light without CO2 and tolerates a wide range of water parameters.
Like all Crypts, 'Red' is slow-growing once established and benefits from being left undisturbed after planting. A reliable, warm-toned midground choice for low-tech tanks and shrimp setups.
Care Notes
Crypt wendtii 'Red' roots in substrate. Plant with the crown (where the leaves meet the roots) ABOVE the substrate. Burying the crown causes rot. Root tabs help significantly — Crypts are heavy root feeders.
Crypts can melt after a parameter change or transplant — leaves yellow and dissolve, but the roots stay alive. Leave the plant in place and it usually regrows from the rhizome over a few weeks. Better lighting and iron-rich dosing improve the intensity of the red tones over time.
