Java Fern 'Windelov' is a cultivated variety of Microsorum pteropus with distinctive finely branched, lacy frond tips that split into multiple points rather than ending in a single strap. The branching tips give the plant a more ornate appearance than standard Java Fern while retaining the same easy, low-light, epiphytic care. The rhizome must remain ABOVE the substrate at all times.
Same tough, tolerant character as standard Java Fern but with more visual detail at the frond tips. A popular choice for aquascapers who want the reliability of Java Fern with a more refined silhouette.
Care Notes
Java Fern 'Windelov' grows attached to hardscape. The rhizome — the thick horizontal structure at the base of the plant — must remain ABOVE the substrate. Burying the rhizome causes rot. Attach with super glue gel or thin thread to driftwood or a flat stone.
Low light is sufficient. CO2 and fertilizer are not required. Trim damaged fronds at the rhizome. Like standard Java Fern, Windelov may produce tiny plantlets on the frond tips; these can be detached and attached to new hardscape once they develop roots.
