Hikari Mini Algae Wafers are a smaller-sized version of the classic Algae Wafers, designed for nano tanks, smaller bottom feeders, shrimp, and snails. The same proven spirulina and chlorella formula in a size more manageable for smaller aquariums and species — easier to dose without overfeeding, and better proportioned for otocinclus, smaller plecos, and dwarf shrimp.
The uniquely shaped disc sinks rapidly and retains its shape, giving less aggressive and slower-moving species extended access to the food. Higher vegetable protein content supports the nutritional needs of herbivorous species. Contains spirulina and chlorella for natural color support. Convenient for smaller tanks where the full-size wafer would be excessive.

Why It Works
Product Highlights
01
Nano-Tank Friendly Size
Mini-sized wafers are easier to dose in smaller tanks without overfeeding, and better proportioned for otocinclus, smaller plecos, and dwarf shrimp.
02
Spirulina & Chlorella Formula
Same proven vegetable-rich formula as the full-size Algae Wafers. High vegetable protein content with spirulina and chlorella for herbivorous species.
03
Great for Shrimp & Snails
Commonly used as a supplemental vegetable food source for freshwater shrimp and snails. Works well alongside shrimp-specific foods.
How to Use
Feeding Instructions
Drop one or more mini wafers directly into the aquarium based on your tank size and stocking. Feed no more than the amount your fish and invertebrates will completely consume within one hour. For nocturnal species, feed after lights-out for best results.
Avoid overfeeding and always remove uneaten food after the feeding period. In shrimp-only tanks, one mini wafer every 2–3 days is generally sufficient as a supplement alongside their regular biofilm grazing.
Feeding Guide
Feed small amounts 3–4 times per week
Remove uneaten food within 24 hours
Observe shrimp — adjust quantity if food disappears quickly
Supplement with blanched vegetables 1–2× per week
Pairs Well With
Complete Their Feeding Routine
Pair staple foods with treats, botanicals, and feeding accessories for a more complete routine.
What's the difference between Mini Algae Wafers and regular Algae Wafers?+
The formula is essentially the same — the Mini Algae Wafers are a smaller size, making them better suited to nano tanks, smaller bottom feeders, and situations where you want to avoid overfeeding with a full-sized wafer.
How many should I feed per tank?+
This depends on tank size and stocking. For a shrimp tank, one mini wafer every 2–3 days as a supplement alongside biofilm grazing is typically sufficient. For tanks with bottom feeders, start with one wafer and observe how quickly it is consumed.
What is the guaranteed analysis?+
Crude Protein: 33% min. Crude Fat: 4% min. Crude Fiber: 3% max. Moisture: 10% max. Ash: 17% max. Phosphorus: 0.8% min.

Are Mini Algae Wafers safe for shrimp?+
Yes — Mini Algae Wafers are commonly fed to freshwater shrimp as a supplemental vegetable food source. Note that the formula contains copper sulfate; feed sparingly and remove uneaten portions promptly from shrimp tanks.
When should I feed them?+
Many bottom feeders are nocturnal. For best results, feed after lights-out. Remove any uneaten food within an hour of feeding.
