Rewarding to breed
Pure Red Line Shrimp are a selectively line-bred Taiwan Bee Caridina cantonensis, developed through generations of targeted breeding to produce consistently defined red and white banding. PRL are not a colour morph that emerged naturally — they are the result of deliberate selection for pattern clarity, red saturation, and banding definition. The result is a shrimp where the red sections are bold and uniform and the white sections are clean and distinct, with minimal bleeding between the two.
PRL are best suited to hobbyists who already have a working Caridina setup. The selective breeding that produces clean patterning also makes these shrimp less forgiving of parameter variance than wilder-type Caridina. Every Pure Red Line we ship is quarantined at our facility in dedicated Caridina tanks before departure.
Care Notes
Pure Red Line Shrimp require the same precise water chemistry as all Taiwan Bee Caridina. Use RO water remineralised with a Caridina-specific GH+ product to reach TDS 100–150, GH 4–6, KH 0–1, pH 5.8–6.8. KH must remain at or near zero — carbonate hardness raises pH and degrades the buffering capacity of active substrate over time. Active buffering substrate (ADA Amazonia, Controsoil, or equivalent) is strongly recommended. Temperature should remain in the 65–72°F range. Feed sparingly 3–4 times per week with Caridina-appropriate foods; remove uneaten food within 24 hours. Never use copper-based medications.

Why We Love This Shrimp
01
Red and White That Earns a Second Look
PRL banding is defined by selective breeding, not luck. The red sections are bold and saturated, the white sections are clean — a level of pattern consistency that distinguishes them from standard red Caridina variants.
02
The Result of Deliberate Breeding
Pure Red Line is a line-bred designation, not a colour morph. Each generation is selected for pattern clarity and colour intensity. Keeping PRL well is keeping the output of serious hobbyist breeding work.
03
Stable Parameters Unlock Their Potential
In dialled-in Caridina water, PRL are consistent breeders and the offspring carry the same patterning. The work is in the setup — the shrimp do the rest.
Specialized Setup
Best Kept Species-Only
Caridina shrimp do best in dedicated soft-water setups with stable parameters. Pair with mosses, botanicals, and shrimp-safe plants instead of mixed livestock.
⚠ Do Not Mix With
Any fish — Caridina are best kept in species-only invertebrate setups
Snails or inverts requiring harder or warmer water
Neocaridina — water chemistry requirements are incompatible; keep in separate dedicated tanks
Expert Advice
Razz Aquatics Recommendation
PRL are one of the most rewarding Caridina to keep once your parameters are stable — the banding definition under good lighting in a well-planted tank is genuinely impressive. Set up your RO water, remineraliser, and active substrate at least four to six weeks in advance and verify parameters before the shrimp arrive. Dark substrate and moss (Java Moss or Subwassertang) make the red and white contrast read sharply from across the room.

Common Questions
Pure Red Line Shrimp FAQ
What does Pure Red Line mean?+
Pure Red Line (PRL) refers to a Taiwan Bee Caridina selectively line-bred over multiple generations for defined red and white banding with consistent pattern clarity and colour saturation. It is a breeding designation, not a naturally occurring colour morph.
What water parameters do Pure Red Line Shrimp need?+
pH 5.8–6.8, TDS 100–150, GH 4–6, KH 0–1, temperature 65–72°F. RO water remineralised with a Caridina-specific GH+ product is required. Tap water is not suitable — residual carbonate hardness will raise pH over time and compromise the buffering substrate.
Can Pure Red Line Shrimp live with Neocaridina?+
They can physically share a tank, but their water chemistry requirements are incompatible. Caridina require soft, acidic water (pH 5.8–6.8, KH near zero) while Neocaridina tolerate harder, more alkaline conditions. Dedicated tanks are strongly recommended.
What is the free shipping threshold?+
Free 2-Day Shipping on orders $120+. Free Overnight on orders $200+. Plants and dry goods ship free at $75+.
How do I acclimate Pure Red Line Shrimp?+
Drip acclimate slowly: empty the bag into a small container and drip tank water in at 2–3 drops per second for 1–3 hours. Net the shrimp into the tank — never add bag water to your aquarium. Dim the lights for the first hour. Careful drip acclimation is especially important for line-bred Caridina.
Are Pure Red Line Shrimp good for beginners?+
PRL are an advanced-level Caridina. The selective breeding that produces clean patterning also makes them less tolerant of parameter variance than less line-bred Caridina. We recommend starting with Neocaridina, mastering stable parameter management, and moving to Caridina — and then to PRL — progressively.
Do I need special substrate?+
Active buffering substrate (ADA Amazonia, Controsoil, or equivalent) is strongly recommended. It maintains low pH and near-zero KH passively. Replace when buffering capacity is exhausted, typically after 12–18 months.
How are Pure Red Line Shrimp shipped?+
Professionally packed in an insulated box with a heat or cold pack matched to your local weather forecast. Livestock ships Monday through Thursday and delivers Tuesday through Friday. Choose your preferred delivery date at checkout.
Is there a live arrival guarantee?+
Yes — 100% Live Arrival Guarantee on every order. Photo any DOA in the sealed bag on the day of delivery and submit a claim through the Start a Claim page. Approved claims are resolved with store credit, refund, or replacement at Razz Aquatics’ discretion.
Live plants give shrimp constant grazing surfaces, sheltered hiding spots for shrimplets, and promote the natural biofilm growth shrimp feed on. Every plant is shrimp-safe and ships safely alongside livestock.
