Blue Jelly Shrimp
Neocaridina davidi
Why We Love This Shrimp
Electric color against dark substrate
Beginner-friendly, wide pH range
Natural algae and biofilm grazer
Peaceful community invertebrate
Breeds readily in stable water
Quarantined before every shipment
Blue Jelly Shrimp are a translucent blue color morph of Neocaridina davidi, distinct from Blue Dream (opaque/matte) and Blue Diamond (solid/dense). Their see-through body gives them an almost luminous quality — the blue tint is visible through a mostly clear shell, creating a different visual effect from other blue Neocaridina.
Every Blue Jelly Shrimp we ship is quarantined and health-checked at our facility before it leaves. We run over 100 dedicated aquariums on-site. These are not pet store shrimp — they are selected for consistent coloration and raised in stable, clean water.
Care Notes
Neocaridina are forgiving, but stability matters more than perfection. Avoid sudden swings in temperature, pH, or GH — drip acclimation on arrival is essential. Do not use copper-based medications in a shrimp tank under any circumstances. Feed a small amount 3–4 times per week; remove uneaten food after 24 hours. A mature tank with established biofilm is the best environment for a new colony.

Species Spotlight
Why We Love This Shrimp
01
Blue With a Twist
Blue Jelly shrimp have a translucent blue body that gives them an almost glowing, aqueous quality — different from the dense blue of Diamond or the matte of Dream. They catch light differently depending on the angle, which makes them surprisingly dynamic in a planted tank.
02
Natural Tank Cleaners
Neocaridina graze biofilm and algae constantly — working every surface of your tank around the clock without any intervention from you.
03
They Breed in Your Tank
In stable conditions, Blue Jelly Shrimp reproduce readily. A small group becomes a self-sustaining colony over time — the pace depends on your water and setup.
Community Tank
Compatible Tank Mates
These species coexist peacefully with shrimp. Research before mixing — not every fish is safe.
Any fish whose mouth is large enough to swallow a shrimp
Expert Advice
Razz Aquatics Recommendation
Blue Jelly Shrimp show their translucent coloration best against a dark substrate and with moderate lighting. Java Moss or fine-leafed stems give shrimplets cover and constant grazing surfaces. A sponge filter keeps babies safe from impeller intake while maintaining the gentle water movement these shrimp prefer.

Common Questions
Blue Jelly Shrimp FAQ
Are Blue Jelly Shrimp good for beginners?+
Yes. Blue Jelly Shrimp are Neocaridina — among the most beginner-friendly invertebrates in the hobby. They tolerate a wide pH range, breed readily in stable conditions, and are active and visible throughout the day.
How are Blue Jelly Shrimp shipped?+
Professionally packed in an insulated box with a heat or cold pack matched to your local weather forecast. Livestock ships Monday through Thursday and delivers Tuesday through Friday. Choose your preferred delivery date at checkout.
How do I acclimate Blue Jelly Shrimp?+
Drip acclimate: empty the bag into a small container and drip tank water in at 2–3 drops per second for 1–3 hours. Net the shrimp into the tank — never add bag water to your aquarium. Dim the lights for the first hour.
Can Blue Jelly Shrimp live with fish?+
Yes, with the right species. Ember Tetras, Pygmy Corydoras, Otocinclus, and Celestial Pearl Danios are all safe choices. Avoid any fish large enough to swallow a shrimp. Dense planting provides cover for shrimplets.
What water parameters do Blue Jelly Shrimp need?+
pH 6.5–8.0, temperature 65–80°F, GH 6–8, KH 2–4. Most conditioned tap water works well. Avoid copper-based medications and sudden parameter swings.
What is the free shipping threshold?+
Free 2-Day Shipping on orders $120+. Free Overnight on orders $200+. Plants and dry goods ship free at $75+.
Is there a live arrival guarantee?+
Yes — 100% Live Arrival Guarantee on every order. Photo any DOA in the sealed bag on the day of delivery. Contact us through the Start a Claim page and we will resolve it.
How fast will a Blue Jelly colony grow?+
Colony growth depends on your water parameters, temperature, feeding routine, and tank conditions. In a stable, mature aquarium, Neocaridina breed readily — but timelines vary by setup.
Live plants give shrimp constant grazing surfaces, sheltered hiding spots for shrimplets, and promote the natural biofilm growth shrimp feed on. Every plant is shrimp-safe and ships safely alongside livestock.
