Giant Orange Rabbit Snails are one of the largest Tylomelania variants in the hobby — reaching up to 4 inches in shell length at maturity. Their vivid orange body against the dark, elongated shell makes them an unmistakable centerpiece in any planted tank.
They share the standard Rabbit Snail care profile: warm water (75–86°F), alkaline parameters (pH 7.0–8.5), fine substrate, and slow livebearing reproduction. They are not suited to small nano tanks — give them at least 10 gallons and ideally more given their adult size.
Care Notes
Rabbit Snails prefer warmer water than most freshwater snails — maintain temperature at 75–86°F. They thrive in moderately hard, alkaline water; soft acidic water stresses them and damages shells over time.
Use fine sand or smooth substrate to protect their foot. Supplement with blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach, kale) 2–3 times per week. Add calcium via cuttlebone or mineral blocks. Never use copper-based medications. Rabbit Snails are livebearers and reproduce slowly — one juvenile at a time, enclosed in a white membrane.
