Micro Sword (Lilaeopsis brasiliensis) is a compact foreground carpeting plant with short, narrow, sword-like blades that spread by runners to form a low, grass-like lawn. It is similar in appearance to Dwarf Hairgrass but with slightly wider, more defined blades. It grows under medium-to-high light and can carpet without CO2, though CO2 speeds up the process.
Micro Sword is a moderate-care foreground plant. It is slower to establish than faster stem plants but a more achievable carpeting option than HC Cuba for low-to-medium-tech tanks. Spreads by runners; a few starter clumps fill in over several weeks.
Care Notes
Micro Sword roots in substrate. Separate the pot into small clumps and press each clump gently into fine-to-medium substrate about an inch apart with the crowns above the substrate. Root tabs help establishment, especially in inert substrates.
CO2 is not required but significantly speeds up carpeting and produces denser growth. Under medium-to-high light without CO2 the carpet establishes more slowly. Trim the blades periodically to keep the carpet low.
