Species Profile
Orange Backline Shrimp
Neocaridina davidi
Why We Love This Shrimp
Electric color against dark substrate
Beginner-friendly, wide pH range
Natural algae and biofilm grazer
Peaceful community invertebrate
Breeds readily in stable water
Quarantined before every shipment
Orange Backline Shrimp are a patterned color morph of Neocaridina davidi featuring a transparent body with an orange dorsal stripe running from head to tail. The pattern is more specific and graphic than solid-colored Neocaridina — the stripe is the visual element, against a clear background that lets you see the stripe cleanly.
Every Orange Backline Shrimp we ship is quarantined and health-checked at our facility before it leaves. We run over 100 dedicated aquariums on-site. These are not pet store shrimp — they are selected for clear stripe definition and raised in stable, clean water.
Care Notes
Neocaridina are forgiving, but stability matters more than perfection. Avoid sudden swings in temperature, pH, or GH — drip acclimation on arrival is essential. Do not use copper-based medications in a shrimp tank under any circumstances. Feed a small amount 3–4 times per week; remove uneaten food after 24 hours. A mature tank with established biofilm is the best environment for a new colony.

Species Spotlight
Why We Love This Shrimp
01
A Stripe That Sets Them Apart
Orange Backline shrimp are a transparent-bodied Neocaridina with a distinctive orange stripe running along the dorsal line. The rest of the body stays clear, so the stripe is the feature — a specific, precise look you won't get from solid-colored morphs.
02
Natural Tank Cleaners
Neocaridina graze biofilm and algae constantly — working every surface of your tank around the clock without any intervention from you.
03
They Breed in Your Tank
In stable conditions, Orange Backline Shrimp reproduce readily. A small group becomes a self-sustaining colony over time — the pace depends on your water and setup.
Community Tank
Compatible Tank Mates
These species coexist peacefully with shrimp. Research before mixing — not every fish is safe.
Any fish whose mouth is large enough to swallow a shrimp
Expert Advice
Razz Aquatics Recommendation
Orange Backline Shrimp show their dorsal stripe most clearly against dark substrate — black sand makes the transparent body disappear and leaves the orange line as the only visual element. Java Moss provides cover for shrimplets and biofilm for grazing. A sponge filter is the safest filtration choice.
