Rewarding to breed
Wine Red Shrimp are a Taiwan Bee variant of Caridina cantonensis distinguished by their deep, saturated burgundy-red body colour against white banding. The wine-red pigmentation is richer and darker than standard red Taiwan Bee variants — closer to a deep crimson or burgundy than a bright or cherry red — which gives them a distinctive appearance under aquarium lighting, particularly against green moss or dark substrate.
Like all Taiwan Bee Caridina, Wine Red Shrimp require soft, acidic water produced with RO filtration and active buffering substrate. Every shrimp we ship is quarantined at our facility in dedicated Caridina tanks before departure, held under the same parameters they need in your tank.
Care Notes
Wine Red Shrimp require the same precise water chemistry as all Taiwan Bee Caridina. Use RO water remineralised with a Caridina-specific GH+ product: TDS 100–150, GH 4–6, KH 0–1, pH 5.8–6.8. KH must remain at or near zero — carbonate hardness raises pH and will degrade active substrate buffering over time. Active buffering substrate (ADA Amazonia, Controsoil, or equivalent) is strongly recommended. Maintain temperature between 65–72°F; avoid warmer fluctuations. Feed sparingly 3–4 times per week with Caridina-appropriate foods; remove uneaten food within 24 hours. Never use copper-based medications.

Why We Love This Shrimp
01
Burgundy That Reads Differently
Wine Red pigmentation is deeper and richer than standard red Taiwan Bee variants. Against green moss or dark substrate, the colour has a depth and saturation that photographs well and looks even better in person.
02
Advanced Care, Genuine Reward
Taiwan Bee Caridina require precision that most freshwater invertebrates do not. Hobbyists who invest in the right setup — RO water, active substrate, stable parameters — are rewarded with shrimp that consistently thrive.
03
Consistent in Stable Water
Once your Caridina parameters are established and stable, Wine Red Shrimp breed reliably and the offspring carry the same deep colouration. The setup is the work — the shrimp handle the rest.
Specialized Setup
Best Kept Species-Only
Caridina shrimp do best in dedicated soft-water setups with stable parameters. Pair with mosses, botanicals, and shrimp-safe plants instead of mixed livestock.
⚠ Do Not Mix With
Any fish — Caridina are best kept in species-only invertebrate setups
Snails or inverts requiring harder or warmer water
Neocaridina — water chemistry requirements are incompatible; keep in separate dedicated tanks
Expert Advice
Razz Aquatics Recommendation
Wine Red Shrimp look best in a heavily planted tank with dark substrate — the deep burgundy colour reads dramatically against green moss and black sand or fine gravel. Java Moss, Subwassertang, or Weeping Moss on driftwood gives them both grazing surfaces and a backdrop that makes the colour stand out. Set up your RO water, remineraliser, and active substrate at least four to six weeks before the shrimp arrive, and verify parameters before introducing them.

Common Questions
Wine Red Shrimp FAQ
Are Wine Red Shrimp good for beginners?+
Wine Red Shrimp are an advanced-level Caridina. They require RO water, a Caridina-specific remineraliser, and active buffering substrate. We recommend gaining experience with Neocaridina first, mastering stable parameter management, then moving to Caridina.
Do I need special substrate?+
Active buffering substrate (ADA Amazonia, Controsoil, or equivalent) is strongly recommended. It maintains low pH and near-zero KH passively without constant intervention. Replace when buffering capacity is exhausted, typically after 12–18 months.
How do Wine Red Shrimp differ from other red Caridina?+
Wine Red Shrimp have a deeper, more saturated burgundy-red pigmentation compared to standard red Taiwan Bee variants. The colour is richer and darker — closer to a deep crimson than a bright or cherry red — which gives them a distinct appearance, particularly under planted-tank lighting.
What is the free shipping threshold?+
Free 2-Day Shipping on orders $120+. Free Overnight on orders $200+. Plants and dry goods ship free at $75+.
How do I acclimate Wine Red Shrimp?+
Drip acclimate slowly: empty the bag into a small container and drip tank water in at 2–3 drops per second for 1–3 hours. Net the shrimp into the tank — never add bag water to your aquarium. Dim the lights for the first hour. Slow drip acclimation is critical for Caridina — rapid parameter shifts cause the most losses during transition.
What water parameters do Wine Red Shrimp need?+
pH 5.8–6.8, TDS 100–150, GH 4–6, KH 0–1, temperature 65–72°F. RO water remineralised with a Caridina-specific GH+ product is required. Even soft tap water is unsuitable — residual carbonate hardness raises pH over time and stresses the shrimp.
Can Wine Red Shrimp live with Neocaridina?+
They can physically share a tank, but their water chemistry requirements are incompatible. Caridina require soft, acidic water (pH 5.8–6.8, KH near zero) while Neocaridina tolerate harder, more alkaline conditions. Dedicated tanks are strongly recommended.
How are Wine Red Shrimp shipped?+
Professionally packed in an insulated box with a heat or cold pack matched to your local weather forecast. Livestock ships Monday through Thursday and delivers Tuesday through Friday. Choose your preferred delivery date at checkout.
Is there a live arrival guarantee?+
Yes — 100% Live Arrival Guarantee on every order. Photo any DOA in the sealed bag on the day of delivery and submit a claim through the Start a Claim page. Approved claims are resolved with store credit, refund, or replacement at Razz Aquatics’ discretion.
Live plants give shrimp constant grazing surfaces, sheltered hiding spots for shrimplets, and promote the natural biofilm growth shrimp feed on. Every plant is shrimp-safe and ships safely alongside livestock.
