Snow White Amano Shrimp

Caridina multidentata

Why We Love This Shrimp

  • Electric color against dark substrate
  • Beginner-friendly, wide pH range
  • Natural algae and biofilm grazer
  • Peaceful community invertebrate
  • Breeds readily in stable water
  • Quarantined before every shipment

Snow White Amano Shrimp are a rare colour variant of Caridina multidentata featuring a translucent white to pale body instead of the typical spotted, semi-transparent appearance. The white colouration makes them visually distinct in planted tanks — particularly effective against dark substrate or green moss, where the pale body reads cleanly. They are the same species as standard Amano shrimp with identical care requirements and the same exceptional algae-grazing ability.

Like all Amano shrimp, Snow White Amanos do not breed in freshwater. Their larvae require brackish or marine conditions to develop, so they will not reproduce in a home aquarium. Every shrimp we ship is quarantined and health-checked before departure.

Care Notes

Snow White Amano Shrimp share the same care requirements as standard Amano shrimp. Maintain pH 6.5–8.0 and temperature 68–78°F in a stable, mature aquarium. They are sensitive to ammonia and nitrite — do not add to a cycling tank. Keep in groups of at least 3–5; lone individuals become reclusive and rarely graze visibly. Supplement biofilm grazing with algae wafers or blanched vegetables 2–3 times per week. Remove uneaten food within 24 hours. Never use copper-based medications.

Species Spotlight

Why We Love This Shrimp

01

White That Stands Out

The pale, translucent body of the Snow White Amano reads differently than any other freshwater shrimp. Against dark substrate or moss, they are genuinely striking — visible without being garish.

02

Same Algae Control, Rarer Look

Snow White Amanos are just as effective at grazing algae, biofilm, and thread algae as standard Amanos — with a colour variant rarely seen in freshwater invertebrate keeping.

03

Hardy and Community Safe

Despite the unusual appearance, Snow White Amanos are as tough and adaptable as standard Amano shrimp. They hold their own in community tanks and tolerate a wide parameter range.

Expert Advice
Razz Aquatics Recommendation

Snow White Amanos show their colouration most clearly against dark substrate and dense green planting. A group of 3–5 in a planted tank creates a genuinely eye-catching contrast. They graze the same surfaces as standard Amanos — moss, hardscape, plant leaves — and become more confident and visible once settled in a stable tank. Add to a mature, established aquarium for best results.

Common Questions

Snow White Amano Shrimp FAQ

Will Snow White Amano shrimp breed in my tank?+
No. Like all Amano shrimp, their larvae require brackish or marine water to develop. They cannot reproduce in a freshwater aquarium.
Do Snow White Amano shrimp eat plants?+
No. They graze algae, biofilm, and organic debris from plant surfaces without damaging healthy plant tissue. Safe with all live plants.
What fish are safe with Snow White Amano shrimp?+
Small, peaceful fish: ember tetras, rasboras, otocinclus, pygmy corydoras. Avoid bettas, cichlids, large barbs, pufferfish, and any fish with a history of shrimp predation.
What is the free shipping threshold?+
Free 2-Day Shipping on orders $120+. Free Overnight on orders $200+. Plants and dry goods ship free at $75+.
How do I acclimate Snow White Amano shrimp?+
Drip acclimate: empty the bag into a small container and drip tank water in at 2–3 drops per second for 30–60 minutes. Net shrimp into the tank — never add bag water. Dim lights for the first hour.
Are Snow White Amanos the same species as regular Amano shrimp?+
Yes — Caridina multidentata. The Snow White variant is a colour morph, not a separate species. Care requirements, adult size, and behaviour are identical.
Are they safe with other shrimp?+
Snow White Amano shrimp are peaceful with dwarf shrimp and snails when water parameters overlap, but they should not be used in specialized Taiwan Bee or Sulawesi setups unless the parameters are appropriate for both species.
How are Snow White Amano shrimp shipped?+
Professionally packed in an insulated box with a heat or cold pack matched to your local weather forecast. Livestock ships Monday through Thursday and delivers Tuesday through Friday. Choose your preferred delivery date at checkout.
Is there a live arrival guarantee?+
Yes — 100% Live Arrival Guarantee on every order. Photo any DOA in the sealed bag on the day of delivery and submit a claim through the Start a Claim page. Approved claims are resolved with store credit, refund, or replacement at Razz Aquatics’ discretion.
